A LED lit fabric canopy inside a school
The renovation of the interior of St Thomas’s School took place in 2007 and aimed to create a modern and interactive space for the pupils to learn in. Employing architect Steve Fitzwilliam to fulfill this brief, they embarked on a complete redesign of the space!
Architen Lighting worked alongside Steve and the Architen Landrell fabric team to develop a fully lit internal fabric canopy which stretches from the brand new IT centre to the entrance of the school theatre.
Using a silicon glass mesh to diffuse the light beautifully, the walkway integrates Tryka LED colour changing lighting to create a range of colours which fade in and fade out. All controlled by an LPC System provided by Pharos, the lighting is programmed to change at certain times of the day to signify break times, lunch times and exam periods.
It can also be used as an educational tool – the physics department show the effects of mixing colours using the lighting as a visual aid!
